Dream Corp LLC is a show about a scientific facility that creates technology to enter people’s dreams and help fix their problems while they sleep. The series opens with a comedic, surreal and somewhat unnerving pilot episode.
The episode begins with patient Tanya (Stephanie Allynne) discussing her unending woes with her therapist while she receives a tour of the unusual Dream Corp LLC facility. The tour includes a rundown of the numerous robotic machines that help create a connection of sorts between Tanya’s therapist and herself, while allowing her to enter a deep sleep that will navigate her through her nightmares.
The therapy session does not go as planned, even with state-of-the-art futuristic technologies being used. Despite all the attempts, the machines fail to detect Tanya’s fears and anxieties. After being placed in a deep sleep, she begins to experience nightmares that are incredibly absurd. The show’s creators do not hold back in creating an intricate world of dreams, accompanied by vivid and colorful imagery, which can be too intense for some viewers.
The head of Dream Corp, Dr. Roberts played by Jon Gries, enters the dream space to help Tanya navigate through her nightmares and find the root of her psychological disorder. However, with the team’s newest employee, an unpredictable and untested intern named Patient 88 (Nick Rutherford), Dr. Roberts knows that he has to intervene to ensure that he doesn’t cause any unrest in the dream space, leading to catastrophic results.
Despite the episode’s surreal visuals, the show manages to keep the audience intrigued with a cohesive narrative about Tanya’s psychological issues. The narrative threads are interwoven with humor that will keep both hardcore and casual viewers glued to the show.
The show's creators excel at showcasing the dream world that takes its twists and turns in unexpected ways. The creatives on the show leave nothing for the audience to desire in the second half of the episode. Instead of relying on cheap jump scares, the show messes with Tanya’s perception of reality, causing viewers to question whether they are inside the dream or outside it.
Dream Corp LLC also makes use of numerous comedic moments in this first episode. One such humorous moment occurs when Patient 88, who is tasked with operating a robotic arm to make an incision on Tanya’s arm, accidentally clips her nose instead. The show’s comedy often tends to be as surreal as the dream world that it delves into.
Furthermore, the show adds replay value by including hidden details in the backgrounds of the dream world that nod to Tanya’s psyche and the nightmare she is experiencing. This way, the audience is constantly encouraged to keep their eyes peeled for any hidden motifs that might surface.
In conclusion, Dream Corp LLC is a delightfully surreal and humorous show that merges psychological horror and science fiction in a creative and cohesive manner. The show’s creators excel at establishing a world filled with vivid dreamscapes, yet they also deliver a narrative that is engaging and easy to follow. With a healthy dose of wit and humor, the pilot episode proved to be a promising start to the promising series.
