Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids is an animated television series that follows the adventures of a group of urban African American children. In season 1 episode 13, titled The Tomboy, the gang meets a new girl in school named Terry who prefers to be called "Terry-boy" and dresses and acts like a boy. Terry has a passion for sports and wants to try out for the school basketball team, but the boys don't think she's good enough to play with them.

The episode begins with the gang playing basketball at the park when they notice a new girl watching them. They introduce themselves and invite her to play, but she tells them her name is Terry and she prefers to be called Terry-boy. When she joins the game, they quickly realize she's a skilled player, and they invite her to try out for the school basketball team.

The boys are excited about the prospect of having a girl on their team, but when Terry shows up to tryouts dressed like a boy, they are confused and unsure about whether or not she should be allowed to try out. The coach decides to let her play but puts her on the bench. The boys start to doubt Terry's abilities and make fun of her for dressing like a boy. Terry becomes discouraged and starts to doubt herself, but the gang encourages her to keep trying.

Despite being benched for most of the game, Terry finally gets her chance to play when one of the boys gets injured. She proves to be a skilled player, and the boys realize that they were wrong about her. After the game, they apologize to Terry for judging her and invite her to join their gang. Terry is happy to have made new friends and to have proven that girls can play basketball just as well as boys.

The episode ends with the gang playing basketball against another team with Terry as their star player. They win the game, and Terry proves to everyone that she's not only a great basketball player but also a valued member of the gang.

The Tomboy tackles themes of gender stereotypes, sportsmanship, and friendship. It encourages children to look beyond stereotypes and to value people for who they are rather than how they dress or act. This episode is a great example of how Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids tackled important social issues in a way that was both entertaining and educational for children.
