The television show Four in a Bed follows a group of bed and breakfast inn owners as they travel around England and Scotland, staying at each other's establishments and competing to see who runs the best B&B. In season 4, episode 7, the contestants travel to Manor Lodge, a B&B located in the beautiful Peak District National Park.
Owned by husband and wife team Lisa and Phil, Manor Lodge is a characterful property with a fascinating history. Phil reveals that the house was used as a hospital for wounded soldiers during World War I, and that there are still bullet holes in the walls from when it was used as a firing range. The judges are impressed by the couple's commitment to preserving the property's original features while still creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.
The first guest to arrive is fellow B&B owner Tammy, who is instantly struck by the stunning views from the property's garden. Tammy is impressed by the cleanliness of the guest rooms and the stylish decor, but notes that there are a few minor issues that need to be addressed, such as a flickering light bulb and a slightly lumpy pillow.
Next up is retired couple Roger and Liz, who run a B&B in a nearby town. They are immediately taken with the warm welcome from Lisa and Phil, and enjoy a glass of prosecco in the garden before exploring the house. Roger is impressed by the antique furniture and the historical artifacts on display, while Liz is blown away by the huge breakfast spread the next morning.
Last to arrive is flamboyant businessman Raj, who owns a boutique hotel in London. Raj is keen to show off his own hosting skills, and immediately launches into a tour of Manor Lodge as soon as he arrives. He is impressed by the size of the guest bedrooms and the luxurious en-suite bathrooms, but notes that the room he has been assigned is a bit too warm for his liking.
Throughout their stay, the contestants take it in turns to host activities for each other in the local area. Tammy takes the group on a hike through the stunning Peak District landscape, while Raj hires a limo to take them all out for a night on the town. Roger and Liz take the group on a tour of the local brewery, where they sample some of the region's best craft beers.
As the week goes on, tensions begin to arise between the contestants. Raj is critical of Lisa and Phil's choice of music during breakfast, while Tammy grows increasingly frustrated with the lack of vegetarian options on the menu. Roger and Liz remain largely neutral, but are surprised when Raj gives their B&B a lower score than they expected.
At the end of the week, it's time for the contestants to reveal their scores and find out who has won. Lisa and Phil are nervous as the scores are read out, but are thrilled to hear that they have received high marks from all of their guests. They are ultimately declared the winners, much to their delight.
Overall, season 4, episode 7 of Four in a Bed is a gripping and entertaining installment of the popular series. With stunning scenery, interesting history, and a diverse cast of characters, it's a must-watch for anyone who loves British hospitality.
