Foyle's War is a British detective drama television series set during World War II and mainly follows the investigations of Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle. In season 3 episode 2, titled "Enemy Fire", Christopher Foyle continues to solve crimes in the midst of the war-torn England.

The episode begins with a group of Black American soldiers arriving in Hastings. They are met with hostility from the locals, who distrust them solely because of their skin color. The situation escalates when a white woman is found murdered on the beach, and the prime suspect is a Black soldier. The victim's father, a wealthy businessman, puts pressure on the local police to quickly solve the case, and Foyle is called in to investigate.

From the beginning, Foyle is aware of the racial tension surrounding the case. He cleverly and sensitively handles the situation, making an effort to understand the perspectives of both the Black soldiers and the local townspeople. Foyle and his faithful driver, Samantha, conduct a thorough investigation and uncover a web of secrets and lies that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.

The investigation leads them to a Black-run nightclub, where they discover the victim's husband, a wealthy businessman, and a member of the British Union of Fascists. This discovery complicates matters, as it seems unlikely that the Black soldier was the murderer, and Foyle must find a way to bring the real culprit to justice without causing further racial strife in the town.

As the investigation deepens, Foyle discovers that the real motive for the murder is rooted in deeply held anti-Black sentiment and fear of a mixed-race child. This angle makes the investigation even more fraught with tension and poses additional challenges for Foyle as he tries to get to the bottom of the case.

As always, Michael Kitchen delivers a masterful and nuanced performance as Foyle. He brings a quiet intensity to the role, perfectly balancing intelligence and compassion in his character. This season shows Foyle at his best, as he navigates the moral ambiguity of a war-torn world.

Overall, "Enemy Fire" is a gripping and thought-provoking episode that tackles issues of race, class, and politics with subtlety and nuance. It is a standout episode in an already exceptional series and is sure to leave audiences wanting more.
