It's the mid-'90s and Eddie Huang's family has just moved from Washington D.C. to Orlando, Florida. They're the only family of Taiwanese descent in their new neighborhood and are struggling to find their footing. As the first episode of Fresh Off the Boat opens, Eddie's dad, Louis, is excitedly showing his family their new home, but Eddie's mom, Jessica, is less than thrilled. She's a no-nonsense kind of woman who isn't afraid to speak her mind, and she's worried that this new move might not be worth it.

Eddie, meanwhile, is having a tough time adjusting to his new surroundings. At school, he's the new kid who doesn't quite fit in. He's teased by other kids for his style and the food he brings for lunch. He also struggles to understand the slang and cultural references of his new classmates.

One thing that seems to be helping Eddie adjust is his love of hip hop. He's a huge fan of the Wu-Tang Clan and often raps along with their songs. He even starts rapping some of his own rhymes in an attempt to fit in with the other kids. While his rhymes aren't exactly great, they do help him make a connection with the other students, including a kid named Walter.

At home, things are also a bit tense. Louis is excited about the prospect of his new steakhouse, Cattleman's Ranch, being a success, but Jessica is hesitant. She worries that her family won't be able to fit in with the community and that the locals won't be interested in their kind of food.

Despite these worries, the family tries to make the best of their situation. They bond over meals, watch TV together, and try to make new friends in the neighborhood. Eddie's little brothers, Emery and Evan, seem to be adjusting better than Eddie, and they even start attending Chinese school on the weekends.

Towards the end of the episode, Eddie's parents come to school to have a meeting with his teacher, Miss Wen. They're worried about Eddie's grades and want to make sure that he's getting the support he needs. Miss Wen tells them that Eddie is a bright kid, but that he needs to apply himself more. She also suggests that they have him tested for ADHD.

The episode ends with the family having dinner together at Cattleman's Ranch. Louis has set up a karaoke machine and the family is singing along to old-school hip hop classics. Eddie is trying to rap along, but he's messing up the lyrics. The family laughs and bonds over their shared love of music.

Overall, the first episode of Fresh Off the Boat is an engaging and heartwarming introduction to the Huang family. It sets up the premise of the show well - a family of Taiwanese immigrants trying to make a new life for themselves in America - and introduces us to the characters and their struggles in a way that feels relatable and authentic. The show's hip hop soundtrack and '90s nostalgia add an extra layer of fun, making it a must-watch for anyone who grew up during that era.
