Ep 2. The One With The Cat

In "The One With The Cat," the second episode of season 4 in Friends, Phoebe finds a stray cat that she becomes attached to and instantly names it "Fluffy." Meanwhile, Chandler is having a hard time dealing with Joey's new friend, an actor named Carl who is always around their apartment and borrows Chandler's clothes without permission.

As the episode begins, Phoebe is seen walking down the street when she comes across a cat. She tries to ignore it and keep walking, but the cat follows her home and makes a nest for itself on top of Phoebe's guitar. Phoebe, being an animal lover, decides to take the cat in and keep it as her own. She names it Fluffy and becomes very attached to him.

The rest of the group is not thrilled about the new addition to the apartment, however. Ross is allergic to cats and Chandler finds Fluffy's hair all over everything. Rachel, who is working at her new job at Bloomingdale's, is feeling overwhelmed and her boss isn't making things any easier.

Meanwhile, Joey has met a new friend, an actor named Carl who is constantly hanging around Chandler and Joey's apartment. Carl is always borrowing Chandler's clothes without permission and Chandler is starting to get fed up with him. He vents his frustrations to Joey, but Joey doesn't seem to get it and just brushes off Chandler's concerns.

Throughout the episode, Phoebe defends Fluffy from the rest of the group's complaints while Rachel tries to impress her new boss. Chandler's frustration with Carl reaches a boiling point when he realizes that Carl has been using Chandler's razor to shave his legs. Ross suggests they find a way to get rid of Carl, but Joey is hesitant to let go of his new friend.

In the end, Rachel's boss tells her that he is impressed with her work and she gets offered a promotion. Chandler finally stands up to Carl and tells him that he needs to leave and stop borrowing his clothes. Joey is initially upset, but eventually realizes that Chandler is right and apologizes. Phoebe is devastated when she realizes that Fluffy belongs to someone else and is forced to give him up.
