In "The One With All The Kissing," the second episode of Friends' fifth season, the gang deals with the aftermath of Ross and Rachel's spontaneous kiss at the end of the previous episode. While Ross tries to deny his feelings for Rachel, she insists they talk about what happened between them. Meanwhile, Chandler tries to impress Monica's dad by telling him he's a writer, Phoebe dates a guy who won't stop talking about his dead wife, and Joey can't stop kissing women after he gets a role in a play as a character who's a compulsive kisser.

The episode opens with Ross and Rachel waking up in bed together after their kiss. They awkwardly try to avoid talking about it, but ultimately Rachel wants to know what it meant. Ross tells her it was just a dumb mistake, but Rachel doesn't buy it and insists that they discuss their feelings for each other. Ross resists, telling her that they tried dating before and it didn't work out. Rachel tells him that was a long time ago and they should give it another shot, but Ross insists they just stay friends.

Elsewhere, Chandler is nervous about meeting Monica's dad, Jack Geller. He tries to impress him by telling him he's a writer, but Jack sees right through him and calls him out on his lie. Monica tries to smooth things over by telling Jack that Chandler is a great person anyway, but Chandler is embarrassed and apologizes.

Phoebe, in the meantime, has started dating a guy named Jason who won't stop talking about his dead wife. He brings her to his house and shows her all of the things he's kept of hers, including her shampoo bottle and the sheets she used to sleep on. Phoebe tries to be supportive, but eventually she has enough and tells him that he needs to move on.

Finally, Joey is thrilled to have landed a lead role in a play called "Boxing Day," where he plays a man who's obsessed with kissing everyone he meets. He practices his kissing on Chandler, but things get out of hand when Joey starts kissing everyone he sees, including Ross and Phoebe. He realizes he has a problem when he kisses Rachel and Ross sees it and gets upset.

The episode ends with Ross and Rachel still at odds over their kiss, Chandler feeling embarrassed about lying to Jack, Phoebe helping Jason let go of his dead wife's belongings, and Joey realizing he needs to reign in his kissing obsession.
