Frontline World Season 2 Episode 4 Episode 4

  • June 24, 2004

Pakistani documentarian Sharmeen Obaid travels around her country, surveying its 'many fault lines,' as series editor Stephen Talbot puts it, as she assesses prospects for peace with India and gauges public reaction to its nuclear scandal. Also: a disturbing report on the practice of 'bride kidnapping' in the Central Asian republic of Kyrgyzstan. It's a 'nomadic ritual,' according to Talbot, that has seen a comeback since the fall of the Soviet Union. And there's a more upbeat story about Kenyan female long-distance runners training under Kenyan marathoner Lorna Kiplagat, the winner of the Los Angeles Marathon in 1997 and 1998.
