Ep 5. Eastwatch

In the fifth episode of season 7 of Game of Thrones, titled "Eastwatch," the aftermath of the previous episode's epic battle at sea leaves both the Lannisters and the Targaryens assessing their new positions in the war for the Iron Throne.

At King's Landing, Jaime Lannister barely escapes with his life after being saved by Bronn from drowning. He reports to Cersei that they've lost everything and they no longer have the upper hand against Daenerys and the Unsullied. Cersei remains stubborn, however, and refuses to surrender, instead insisting that they must fight to the last man.

Meanwhile, Daenerys and her dragon, Drogon, survey the newly conquered land of Highgarden. With the help of her advisors, she plans her next move and sends out a summons to the remaining lords of Westeros to bend the knee and swear loyalty to her. She also decides to finally meet Jon Snow, who has recently arrived at Dragonstone, to discuss possible alliances against the coming White Walker threat.

At Winterfell, Sansa continues to rule in Jon's absence and receives a letter from Queen Cersei demanding that she pledge loyalty to the crown and denounce Jon Snow as King in the North. Sansa is torn between her duty to her family and her responsibilities as a leader, and consults with Littlefinger for advice. However, the scheming Littlefinger seems to be more interested in manipulating Sansa for his own gain than truly helping her.

Back at Dragonstone, Jon and Daenerys finally have their much-anticipated meeting. Despite some initial animosity, they begin to forge a bond as they discuss their shared experiences and hopes for their respective kingdoms. Jon also proposes an alliance to Daenerys, explaining the imminent threat of the White Walkers and presenting proof of their existence. This presents a difficult decision for Daenerys, who must decide whether to focus on reclaiming the Iron Throne or help Jon fight against a common enemy.

The episode's title, "Eastwatch," refers to a castle along the Wall that has not been mentioned in the show previously. Bran Stark sees the Night King and his army of undead marching towards Eastwatch in a vision, and sends word to Jon Snow at Dragonstone. Jon, realizing the potential danger, sets off on a mission to capture a wight to prove their existence to the rest of the Seven Kingdoms. He bands together with a ragtag group of characters including Tormund Giantsbane, Beric Dondarrion, and Jorah Mormont, and heads north towards Eastwatch.

The episode ends with a cliffhanger as the group reaches Eastwatch and prepares to venture beyond the Wall. The stakes are high as they seek to capture a wight and prove the existence of the White Walkers to the rest of the world. "Eastwatch" leaves viewers on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating what's next in this intense and unpredictable season.
