Ep 15. Lost And Found

As Rory struggles with her first college assignments, Lorelai receives unexpected news from her mother. Richard has experienced chest pains, and Emily urgently calls Lorelai to inform her. Though disappointed to be summoned to her parents' house, Lorelai rushes to her father's side and encourages him to go to the hospital. Richard agrees, and Emily and Lorelai accompany him to the emergency room.

While in the waiting room, Lorelai and Emily bicker over whether to call Rory or not. Emily insists that they should, but Lorelai is hesitant to interrupt Rory's studies. Eventually, she relents and calls Rory, who is worried about her grandfather but assures her mother that she is keeping up with her coursework.

Meanwhile, Luke has a surprise visitor: his long-lost sister, Liz. Luke is initially suspicious of her, but decides to take care of Liz's son, Jess, who has just been expelled from school. Jess is a troubled teenager who, like Rory, is struggling with his studies. Luke and Jess bond over their mutual love of literature, and Luke decides to take him under his wing.

Back at the hospital, Richard is taken in for tests, but Emily and Lorelai's tempers are frayed and they begin to bicker over Rory's future. Emily insists that Rory attend a prestigious school like Yale, while Lorelai believes that her daughter should make her own choices. Their argument is interrupted by Richard's doctor, who informs them that Richard has suffered a minor heart attack.

Over the course of the day, Rory struggles with her assignments, but with the help of her boyfriend, Dean, she manages to overcome her academic difficulties. Meanwhile, Emily and Lorelai sit with Richard as he recovers from his attack, and the three of them reflect on their relationship as a family.

As the day wears on, Lorelai receives a surprising phone call from Christopher, Rory's father. Christopher has heard about Richard's illness and wants to come to the hospital to offer his support. Lorelai reluctantly agrees, and Christopher arrives with his girlfriend, Sherry. Though Lorelai is hesitant to engage with Christopher, they eventually have a heart-to-heart conversation about their past and their relationship with their daughter.

In the end, Richard recovers from his heart attack, and the family is relieved. Luke decides to take Jess in permanently, and Rory continues to excel in her studies. Emily and Lorelai, meanwhile, begin to repair their relationship with one another as they realize how much they rely on each other in times of crisis. Despite the family's struggles, they come together to support one another and find strength in their love for each other.
