Ep 4. The Road Trip to Harvard

Lorelai and Rory are embarking on a road trip to Harvard so that they can attend a weekend-long event. They will be staying at the home of Emily's friend, Mrs. Cassini, who is a widow. The event that they are attending is one for prospective students of the highly esteemed Ivy League college.

On the way to Harvard, Lorelai and Rory make a detour to see the famed Mark Twain house in Hartford, Connecticut. The house is a beautiful mansion and it inspires Rory to pursue a career in writing. While they are touring the house, Lorelai accidentally breaks a vase. Despite her best efforts to conceal the broken vase, the tour guide discovers it and insists that Lorelai pay for it.

Upon arrival at Mrs. Cassini's home, Lorelai is surprised to find that she is not the only guest staying there. Her mother, Emily, is also there. Emily is attending a different event at Harvard - one for alumni. Emily is thrilled to have her daughter and granddaughter visiting her, but she is constantly upset with Lorelai. She criticizes her appearance, her car, and even her behavior.

During the weekend, Rory and Lorelai attend events such as lectures, tours, and meals with other prospective students. They also take a tour of the campus and visit the museums. During their time at Harvard, Rory is excited by the prospect of attending such a prestigious school, but Lorelai feels out of place. She reminisces about her own failed college experience and worries that Rory will be too different from the other students to fit in.

Meanwhile, Emily is trying to convince Lorelai to reconcile with her father, Richard. However, Lorelai is still angry at him for not supporting her when she was a teenager and pregnant. Ultimately, Lorelai realizes that she needs to let go of her anger and make amends with her father.

As the weekend comes to a close, Rory is understandably disappointed that they won't be able to attend Harvard, but Lorelai tells her that there are plenty of other wonderful colleges out there. Emily apologizes for being hard on Lorelai and the two have a heart-to-heart conversation about their relationship.

On the car ride home, Lorelai and Rory reflect on their experiences at Harvard. Rory is still disappointed, but Lorelai reminds her that her future is bright no matter where she goes to school. They also stop at a convenience store where they bond with a group of young women over Twizzlers.

In the end, Lorelai reflects on what the weekend meant to her. She realized that despite feeling like an outsider, she still belongs within her family and their traditions. She also realizes that it's important to let go of grudges and to move forward with love and forgiveness.
