In season 3 episode 2 of Gilmore Girls, titled "Haunted Leg," Lorelai is dealing with the aftermath of her breakup with Max. She's feeling lonely and restless, and turns to Luke for comfort. Meanwhile, Rory is faced with a tough decision as she tries to choose between two different extracurricular activities.

The episode starts off with Lorelai feeling sad and mopey after her breakup with Max. She's not sure what to do with herself, and spends a lot of time moping around the inn. When Sookie suggests they take a spa day together, Lorelai jumps at the chance.

At the spa, Lorelai starts to open up about her breakup to Sookie. She admits that part of what's making her so sad is that she's afraid she'll never find someone who loves her as much as Max did. Sookie tries to reassure her that that's not the case, and encourages her to start dating again.

Meanwhile, Rory is busy trying to figure out how to spend her free time. She's torn between joining the school newspaper and the student government, and is unsure which one to choose. She turns to her mom for advice, and Lorelai suggests she make a pros and cons list. Rory does so, but finds that it doesn't really help her make a decision.

At the diner, Lorelai runs into Luke and asks him if he'd like to go out with her sometime. Luke, who has always had feelings for Lorelai, is thrilled, but he's also nervous about the whole thing. He agrees to go out with her, but insists it has to be in Stars Hollow.

That night, Rory goes to visit Lane and tells her about her dilemma. Lane encourages her to follow her gut and choose the activity that she's most passionate about. Later, Rory talks to Lorelai about her decision, and decides to join the student government.

The next day, Lorelai heads to Luke's diner for their date. When she arrives, she discovers that Luke has set up a romantic dinner for the two of them in the back room. They have a great time together, and Lorelai starts to realize that she might have feelings for Luke as well.

As the night goes on, Lorelai starts to notice that Luke is limping and asks him about it. He reveals that he hurt his leg a few days earlier, and that it's been bothering him ever since. Lorelai insists that he see a doctor, but Luke insists that he's fine and that it's nothing to worry about.

The next day, Rory is still struggling with her decision to join the student government. She goes to see her guidance counselor, who encourages her to try new things and not worry so much about making the "right" choice. Rory takes the advice to heart, and decides to keep an open mind about both the student government and the school newspaper.

Meanwhile, Lorelai is worried about Luke's leg and decides to take matters into her own hands. She goes to his apartment, and is shocked to find that it's full of creepy dolls and other oddities. Luke tries to brush it off, but Lorelai can't help feeling slightly unnerved.

Lorelai convinces Luke to let her take him to the hospital, and they spend the day there getting his leg X-rayed and treated. While they wait, they talk about their past and their feelings for each other. Lorelai admits that she's been scared to pursue a relationship with Luke, but that she's starting to realize that he's the one for her.

The episode ends with Lorelai and Luke back at his apartment, with Luke's leg bandaged up and feeling much better. They share a sweet moment, and it's clear that there's a lot of potential for their relationship to grow and develop in the future.
