Ep 6. No Time for Despair

As the highly acclaimed medical drama series continues its 17th season, Grey's Anatomy's latest episode, "No Time for Despair," tugs at viewers' heartstrings as we witness the lives of the staff at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital change irrevocably.

The episode starts off with a sense of impending doom as Bailey, Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital's new Chief of Surgery, is given dire news. Her mother, who has already battled inoperable liver cancer, is discovered to have developed a heart condition. Not only that, but Bailey is also informed that due to COVID-19 safety protocols, she will not be able to visit her mother.

Meanwhile, Teddy has to face the consequences of her extramarital affair with Tom. Owen, her ex-fiancé, has discovered the truth, and the tension between the three of them is palpable. Despite her attempts at reasoning, Owen decides that his relationship with Teddy is irreparable and ends things with her.

Elsewhere, Amelia continues to deal with her pregnancy along with Link, her partner. They face a new reality after Amelia discovers that she will be giving birth to a baby with spina bifida. The news is difficult to digest, but they have to be strong to figure out how to give their child the best possible life.

Meanwhile, Maggie is plagued with the weight of her guilt when she must save a patient's life during a surgery that did not go as planned. After her colleagues confront her about the mistake, she is faced with the harsh realization that she might not be as capable as she thought she was.

As if that wasn't enough, the hospital is struggling to keep up with the influx of COVID-19 patients. The staff is exhausted, and some of them are starting to show the signs of severe burnout. Even the chief of surgery, Bailey, isn't immune to the ongoing stress, as she has to come up with a plan to handle the hospital's shortage of personal protective equipment and deal with the death of a colleague.

Despite the many hurdles, there are moments of inspiration that give viewers hope. Tom, an outstanding chef, goes out of his way to cook for his colleagues at the hospital in appreciation of all their hard work. Elsewhere, DeLuca rallies the troops together to try and assist a patient who is caught in an unfortunate accident with limited resources.

As the episode draws to a close, we are left with a heavyhearted feeling, knowing that our favorite characters are facing many challenges that are testing their emotional and professional strength. Grey's Anatomy Season 17 Episode 6 truly showcases the many facets of life that can be both dreary and uplifting. And, although the show is known to make viewers cry, "No Time for Despair" is not one to miss.
