As the title suggests, season 1 episode 4 of Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta focuses on the idea of being misunderstood and the struggle to be recognized for one's talents and not just their family name. The episode opens with Bow Wow discussing his career and how he feels like people don't take him seriously because of his past as a child rapper. Meanwhile, rapper and reality star Deb Antney is dealing with her own frustrations as she tries to get her son Lil'Zane back into music.

Throughout the episode, we see the cast members trying to prove themselves and make a name for themselves outside of their famous families. Ayana, daughter of DJ Hurricane, opens up about her fashion line and how she's trying to make a career for herself in the fashion industry. She meets with a potential investor who is hesitant to work with her because of her family's reputation.

Another cast member, Reginae Carter, daughter of Lil Wayne, also discusses her dreams of becoming a successful actress and talks about the acting classes she's been taking. However, she struggles to balance her career goals with her desire to be a normal teenager and hang out with her friends.

The tension between Bow Wow and Brandon Barnes, son of music executive Debra Antney, comes to a head in this episode. The two get into a heated argument about who is the bigger star and who has more clout in the music industry. Brandon accuses Bow Wow of being a has-been and Bow Wow fires back, telling Brandon that he doesn't know what it's like to be a true artist and have real talent.

Meanwhile, Deb Antney is working tirelessly to get Lil'Zane back into the studio and recording new music. Lil'Zane has been out of the music industry for several years and is hesitant to jump back in, but Deb is determined to make it happen. She sets up a meeting with a record label executive and tries to sell Lil'Zane's talent, but he still seems unsure about getting back into the industry.

The episode ends with Bow Wow and Jermaine Dupri discussing the future of his career and how he can reinvent himself as an artist. It's clear that the cast members of Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta are all struggling in their own ways to prove themselves and be taken seriously as artists outside of their famous families. This episode serves as a reminder that fame and success don't come easy, even for those who come from famous backgrounds.
