Zoe Hart is excited about her upcoming high school homecoming, despite the fact that she never actually attended Bluebell High due to her New York City upbringing. To her surprise, she learns that homecoming is a huge deal in Bluebell and decides to partake in the festivities. However, when she runs into her ex-boyfriend and current Bluebell mayor, Lavon Hayes, Zoe becomes nervous about attending the dance.

Meanwhile, Lemon Breeland, George Tucker's longtime girlfriend, is desperate to win the title of homecoming queen and enlists Zoe's help in making sure it happens. However, when Lemon's former best friend, Crickett, returns to Bluebell for the first time since high school, Lemon's perfect façade begins to unravel.

As Zoe navigates the complicated relationships and politics of Bluebell's small town, she also struggles with her personal relationships. Her crush on George Tucker intensifies, causing tension between him and his girlfriend Lemon. And when Zoe's mother pays an unexpected visit, she begins to question her decision to stay in Bluebell for the long term.
