Jack's elder brother Gervaise, played by Jason Cook, is always getting into trouble and often finds himself on the wrong side of the law. Denise Welch plays Jack's aunty Brenda, who is always causing drama.

The show focuses on the family's everyday lives and the various situations that they find themselves in. It highlights the differences between Jack and his family's way of life and Sarah's middle-class background. There is a constant clash between the different lifestyles, which brings about humorous and awkward situations.
