Hidden is a thrilling Welsh crime drama that follows Detective Inspector Cadi John, who returns to her hometown in North Wales to solve a string of mysterious crimes. Season 2 takes place a year after the events of the first season, and we see Cadi and her team once again investigating a string of distressing crimes in the area.
Episode 1 of Hidden season 2 opens with a harrowing scene of a young woman driving down a dark, deserted road. She's clearly distressed and seems to be fleeing from something. Suddenly, she sees a figure in the headlights and swerves off the road. The scene cuts to the next day, where a jogger discovers the woman's abandoned car.
Cadi John and her team are called to investigate the disappearance of the woman, named Mari Jones. Cadi is immediately suspicious of the fact that Mari's car was found just a few miles from the house where another woman, Meinir, went missing a year ago. Cadi and her team soon discover that Mari was a childhood friend of Meinir's, and they begin to wonder if there's a connection between the two disappearances.
As Cadi delves deeper into the case, she uncovers a web of lies and secrets that threaten to tear apart the close-knit community. She discovers that both Mari and Meinir had been involved in a local environmental campaign to stop a new slate mine from being opened. This had caused a rift in the community, with some people believing that the mine would bring much-needed jobs to the area, and others worrying about the impact it would have on the environment. It soon becomes clear that there are people in the community who are willing to go to extreme lengths to protect their interests.
Meanwhile, we also see the return of DC Owen Vaughan, who had left the police force at the end of season 1. Owen is now working as a detective for a private investigation firm, and he finds himself caught up in a case that leads him back to Cadi's team. It's clear that there's still some tension between Owen and Cadi, and it will be interesting to see how their relationship develops over the course of the season.
As always, Hidden is full of twists and turns, and episode 1 sets up what promises to be another gripping season. The acting is superb, and the Welsh countryside provides a stunning backdrop for this dark and atmospheric crime drama. Fans of the first season will not be disappointed, and newcomers to the show will quickly find themselves drawn into the complex and compelling world of Hidden.
