Brendon Small is a budding young filmmaker who has gained a reputation among his friends for making bizarre and hilarious home movies. In episode 12 of Home Movies, entitled "Law and Boarders," Brendon and his friends strive to create yet another iconic short film in the face of adversity.

As the episode begins, Brendon's mother, Paula, is pressuring him to join a soccer team. Determined to avoid this unpleasant fate, Brendon decides to hold a skateboarding competition instead. However, tensions run high as several of the younger skaters, including Brendon's little sister, Josie, struggle to keep up with the more experienced participants.

Meanwhile, Brendon's friend Jason is having his own issues. As a staunch animal rights supporter, Jason is appalled when his father forces him to take a job at a local butcher shop. Faced with the prospect of having to handle and sell meat products, Jason is forced to confront his own beliefs and consider how to navigate the ethical complexities of a situation like this.

The theme of resistance to authority figures is further explored through the character of Coach McGuirk. An overzealous soccer coach with a tendency to take things too far, McGuirk is constantly at odds with Paula, who is involved in a contentious divorce with her ex-husband. As a result, McGuirk uses his influence over Brendon's soccer team to engage in a petty tit-for-tat battle that ultimately only serves to make both sides look ridiculous.

As the episode reaches its climax, all of these threads come together in a climactic skateboarding competition. With Brendon's friends and family watching, the skaters all put on impressive performances, but in the end, it is Brendon's sister Josie who steals the show. Despite her lack of experience and the discouragement of her friends, Josie manages to pull off an impressive trick that wins the admiration of the judges and the crowd.

Throughout "Law and Boarders," the characters of Home Movies are shown grappling with complex moral and ethical issues, all while trying to navigate the confusing terrain of adolescence. Brendon and his friends may be young, but they are still struggling with issues that people of all ages can relate to - how to stand up for oneself, how to make sense of one's beliefs, and how to find one's place in the world. By the end of the episode, viewers are left with a profound sense of empathy and understanding for these characters as they continue to navigate the rough waters of growing up.
