In Indian Summers season 1 episode 2, tensions continue to rise in Simla as the British colonialists and Indian Nationalists clash. Ralph Whelan, the private secretary to the Viceroy of India, tries to maintain order and keep everyone calm, but it's becoming increasingly difficult. A group of Nationalists are planning a protest and they don't intend for it to be peaceful.

Meanwhile, Aafrin Dalal, a clerk who works for Whelan, is struggling with his feelings for Alice, a British woman who he is forbidden to be with due to their racial and cultural differences. Aafrin is conflicted about his loyalty to his own people and his desire for Alice, who he believes could be the key to a better life.

Cynthia Coffin, the owner of the Royal Simla Club, is also facing challenges as her husband returns from a trip to England with a scandalous secret. Cynthia is forced to make a difficult decision as she tries to protect her reputation and her club.

As the protesters prepare to take to the streets, tensions boil over and violence erupts. The episode ends on a cliffhanger as the fate of several characters is left uncertain.
