In the Company of Maya is the twelfth episode of the second season of the American sitcom Just Shoot Me. The episode originally aired on January 6, 1998, on NBC.
The episode opens with Jack (George Segal) leaving Maya's (Laura San Giacomo) office where he was discussing a business proposal. Maya then receives an invite to attend a perfume launch party from a friend of hers, and she invites Jack to come with her. Jack declines the invite as he has to go to a charity dinner that same night and would not be able to attend both events.
At the party, Maya meets a man named Scott (Mark Feuerstein), who is intrigued by her. However, Maya is unimpressed and is only interested in getting a sample of the perfume as the magazine she works for was assigned to review the product. Scott invites Maya to a business dinner, and after much persuasion from her, she agrees to attend.
Meanwhile, Elliot (Enrico Colantoni), Maya's ex-boyfriend, visits Nina (Wendie Malick) at her apartment. Nina, who has always had a soft spot for Elliot, tries to rekindle their romance, but Elliot insists that he is over Maya and wants to remain good friends with Nina.
Back at the business dinner, Maya starts to realize that Scott is not as bad as she had initially thought. They enjoy each other's company, and Scott offers her a job at his company. Maya is reluctant to take the offer, but Scott promises to show her how successful she could be with his company.
Jack arrives at the party and sees Maya with Scott. He gets jealous and interrupts their conversation. Jack starts to make a scene, and Maya is embarrassed. Scott then pulls Maya aside and tells her that he does not want to start his relationship with her with this kind of drama. Maya agrees, and they both leave the party.
The next day, Maya is at a photoshoot for her magazine. Jack arrives and apologizes for his behavior at the party. Maya accepts his apology, and they make up. Maya then reveals to Jack that she got a job offer from Scott's company. Jack advises her to take the job as it could lead to more opportunities for her.
Later that night, Elliot visits Maya at her apartment and reveals his true feelings for her. Maya is surprised but tells him that she has moved on. Elliot respects her decision and promises to remain a good friend.
