The second episode of Just Shoot Me season 2, titled "The Assistant," follows the drama that ensues when Nina's assistant, Brandi, quits. Nina is at a loss as to who to hire to fill the position, and eventually settles on Dennis Finch, an unrefined and sardonic office worker who takes pleasure in annoying his coworkers.
At first, Finch's unconventional approach to work grinds Nina's gears, but she's eventually able to find a use for his lackadaisical attitude: he's the perfect person to act as her doppelganger at a family party where she's expected to attend. Nina has Finch pose as her so she can attend to other matters.
As Finch successfully navigates the party with Nina's family, Jack and Maya attempt to overthrow Nina in her absence - until Nina returns and takes control of the situation. Meanwhile, Elliot befriends a little girl with a crush on him, mistaking her advances for genuine interest.
The episode concludes with Nina embracing Finch's unique approach to work, while still managing to get him to shape up and take his job seriously.
