Kingdom of the North (2015) is a 4-part television series from the National Geographic Wild channel. The show highlights the life inhabiting the air, land and sea of the Canadian wilderness. One episode called The Return of the Giants chronicles the feeding of humpback whales off the Newfoundland coast. Another episode, The Thundering Herd, tells the story of how people and wildfires have influenced the boreal forests of Canada. The other two episodes, Where Eagles Soar and Journey to the Edge, continue to show how both humans and animals can adapt to living in at times very harsh natural environments.

Kingdom of the North Full Episode Guide

  • Go on an extraordinary journey from the spectacle of humpback whales feeding on capelin off Newfoundland to the world’s largest intact temperate rain forest in British Columbia that is home to the rare “white” black bear. Acrobatic flying squirrels and thousands of mating red-sided garter snakes are just some of the incredible array of wildlife we see.

  • From the prairies to Canada’s vast boreal forest that stretches almost from coast to coast, we reveal a huge wilderness of extremes that has been shaped over millennia by both humans and wildfires.

  • The Canadian Arctic is a world of extremes — the vast and seemingly barren landscapes of rock, ice and snow present harsh conditions for life. Nevertheless, this northern polar region of our planet is inhabited by wildlife and people who have found an amazing variety of ways to survive.

  • Journey through the secret world of Canada’s wettest and most biologically diverse landscape, from the temperate coastal rain forest to the rugged snow-capped peaks of the Rocky Mountains.
