La Jauria, a thrilling Chilean crime drama series, is finally here. In the first episode of season one, titled "Breathe Deeply," we are first introduced to a group of young female students from an all-girls Catholic school whom we see participating in an annual school event that involves running through a forest. One of the students named Blanca Ibarra suddenly goes missing, and the unease and tension on the faces of her fellow students, friends, and her family become palpable.

The search for Blanca becomes even more crucial because a video of her being assaulted in the school bathroom begins making rounds on social media. Blanca is seen being berated by a group of young men who film their actions on their phones and broadcast it live on social media.

When the school authorities get a hold of the video, they immediately call in the police, headed by Inspector Vergara, to launch a search for Blanca. The first place the police investigate is the school grounds, where they find that the hallways and other areas of the school are rigged with surveillance cameras. However, they face resistance from school authorities when they try to confiscate the school's CCTV footage. Furthermore, the students' mobile phone records, which would have helped with the investigation, are ironically inaccessible because they are encrypted.

Amidst the investigation, a group of feminist activists calling themselves "The Pack" break into the school and cause chaos. They paint over the school's walls, write threatening messages to the school administration, and take over the school's PA system. The Pack claims responsibility for the incident and demands that the school authorities hold the perpetrators accountable for the assault on Blanca.

The investigation ultimately leads the police to a young man, Jorge Castro, who is found hiding in a commercial building and who is suspected of being involved in Blanca's disappearance. Jorge is taken into custody, but things quickly take a turn for the worst when he takes his own life in a jail cell.

Throughout the episode, there is a growing sense of unease concerning the role of technology in the students' lives. The constant presence of social media and surveillance camera footage is both a blessing and a hindrance to the police authorities. It's a troubling reminder of how digital communication has become both a tool of transparency and a tool of manipulation.

The cinematography in "Breathe Deeply" is stunning, with the director providing viewers with unique angles that highlight the characters' expressions and emotions, as well as their surroundings. The character development is also strong, especially in the case of Inspector Vergara, who shows both great sensitivity and determination throughout the episode.

Overall, the first episode of La Jauria is a stellar start to what promises to be a compelling, well-crafted suspense show that addresses issues related to patriarchal oppression, feminism, and social justice. "Breathe Deeply" is a well-written and well-executed beginning to a gripping series that will keep you clamoring for more.
