Ep 1. Episode 1

Caroline is a headteacher in a fictional school called West Yorksire High School and living in an enormous house in a posh neighborhood in Harrogate. She is a successful career woman with two children, Roger and Gillian, who are also adults living their separate lives. Roger has a girlfriend named Judith, who Caroline disapproves of. Judith is a much older woman, something that Caroline cannot stomach.

On the other hand, Gillian works at a supermarket in Halifax and lives in a tiny house with her teenage son Raff. Gillian is a divorced single mother and has had various relationships since her divorce. Her most recent beau is a married man, but Gillian cannot resist him, which creates tension in her life.

Caroline and Gillian's father Lefty passes away at the start of the episode, leaving his house and property to both his daughters. They haven't seen each other for years and recently reconnected through Facebook. Caroline and Gillian meet to bury their father and agree to have dinner at a local restaurant to catch up. In an interesting twist, it turns out that the owner of the restaurant is Ellie, a childhood friend of Gillian's with whom she had an intense emotional connection. Ellie is now happily married, and it appears that Gillian still has deep feelings for her.

Meanwhile, Caroline and her husband, John, are celebrating their anniversary. Caroline has dinner reservations at the same restaurant as Gillian, and they end up in the same room. It is an awkward encounter as Caroline is not overbearing, and Gillian is still bitter about their mother's death. Gillian's ex-husband arrives at the restaurant, causing even more tension between them. Caroline insists on paying for their meal, insulting the waiter by not allowing him to give them a separate bill.

The episode ends with Caroline discovering that her husband John has been having an affair with a much younger woman named Sue. She confronts John, and he says that he will end it, but Caroline is not sure if she can trust him or forgive him. Meanwhile, Gillian and Ellie share a passionate kiss outside the restaurant, implying that there may be unresolved feelings between them.
