The Karate Kid is the fifth episode of the second season of the animated TV show Legion of Super Heroes. Set in the 31st century, the show follows a group of teenaged superheroes from different planets who have banded together to form the Legion of Super Heroes, in order to protect the United Planets from various threats.
In this episode, the Legion is faced with a new adversary: a young boy named Ferro Lad who is seeking revenge against the Justice League for the death of his brother. Possessing incredible powers that allow him to control metal, Ferro Lad is determined to take down the Legion, starting with their resident martial arts expert, Karate Kid.
Meanwhile, other members of the Legion are dealing with personal conflicts. Brainiac 5 is struggling to control his emotions, leading him to lash out at his teammates. Lightning Lad is trying to come to terms with his feelings for fellow Legionnaire Phantom Girl. And Saturn Girl is still haunted by the memory of her lost love, Lightning Lad's twin brother, Lightning Lad.
As Ferro Lad attacks the Legion, Karate Kid must use all of his martial arts skills to defend himself and his team. Meanwhile, Brainiac 5 tries to come up with a plan to stop Ferro Lad, but his emotional state threatens to derail their efforts. And as Lightning Lad and Phantom Girl work together to thwart Ferro Lad's plans, they must confront their own feelings for each other.
In the end, the Legion is able to defeat Ferro Lad and save the day. But the personal conflicts among the team members continue, leaving them to wonder if they can truly overcome their differences and work together as a cohesive unit.
