  • October 20, 1951

A Bear for Punishment is the twenty fourth episode of the Looney Tunes season for the year 1951. This classic cartoon follows the misadventures of a hapless father, his mischievous son and a grizzly bear in a series of comedic antics.

The episode begins with the father arriving home from work, wearing a top hat and carrying a briefcase. As he enters the house, he is greeted by his mischievous son, who is wearing a sailor outfit and carrying a toy boat. The son immediately begins playing a prank on his father by tricking him into sitting on a chair rigged with a spring. The father is launched into the ceiling and comes crashing down, but he doesn't seem to be upset with his son's prank.

As the son continues to play tricks on his father, the father decides that he needs to punish his son. He declares that he will get a bear to live in the house and will let the bear dole out the punishment whenever the son misbehaves.

The father sets out to find a bear, but his attempts to capture one are met with failure. He tries to lure a bear into his car with a honey sandwich, but the bear ends up chasing him out of the car and into a tree. He also tries to sneak up on a sleeping bear, but the bear wakes up and attacks him with a series of punches.

After his failed attempts to capture a bear, the father decides to steal one from the zoo. He goes to the zoo, dressed in a fake mustache and carrying a large butterfly net. He sneaks into the bear enclosure and captures a large grizzly bear.

The father brings the bear home and introduces it to his son. At first, the son is scared of the bear, but he soon realizes that the bear is harmless. He begins to play with the bear and even teaches it some tricks.

However, the father soon realizes that he has made a mistake by bringing a bear into the house. The bear eats all of their food and destroys their furniture. The father tries to get rid of the bear, but the bear refuses to leave.

In a humorous turn of events, the father ends up becoming the victim of the bear's punishment. The bear chases him around the house, causing him to repeatedly crash through walls and furniture. Finally, the father decides that he can't take it anymore and decides to release the bear back into the wild.

In the end, the father and son are left with a completely destroyed house, but they are happy to be rid of the bear. They sit outside on the front porch, enjoying the peace and quiet, when suddenly a group of skunks wander onto the porch. The father and son quickly retreat back into the house, ending the episode on a humorous note.

A Bear for Punishment is a classic example of the Looney Tunes style of comedy, with slapstick gags, clever wordplay and lovable characters. It is a must-see for fans of classic animation.
