In this episode of Melissa & Joey, Lennox is studying Shakespeare for her senior project, but is having trouble finding inspiration. Mel and Joe try to help her out by taking her to a local production of Romeo and Juliet, but things go awry when they discover that the play has been rewritten as a zombie apocalypse story.

Back at home, Joe gets a surprise visit from his former professor, who is now working as a TV producer. He wants Joe to audition for a new show, but Joe is hesitant to get back into the entertainment business. Meanwhile, Mel has to deal with a new intern who is making all sorts of mistakes at work.

As the night goes on, Lennox becomes more and more interested in the zombie version of Romeo and Juliet, and decides to rewrite her project to incorporate the undead. But things get complicated when her teacher tells her that she needs to stick to the original text.

While all of this is going on, Ryder is trying to work up the courage to ask his crush out on a date. He turns to Mel and Joe for advice, but ends up getting a lecture on the importance of honesty.

In the end, Lennox comes up with a creative solution to her Shakespeare problem, while Joe decides to take a chance on the TV audition. Ryder finally musters up the courage to ask out his crush, who surprisingly turns out to be interested in him as well. And Mel manages to set her intern straight and save her job.
