In the first episode of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, titled "Black Gundam," viewers are quickly introduced to the storyline, the main characters and the futuristic setting. The episode begins with a violent attack on an Earth Federation base by a rebel group known as the Anti-Earth Union Group (AEUG). AEUG is fighting against an oppressive regime that controls the Earth and its outer colonies.

Amidst this chaos, we are introduced to the protagonist of the show, Kamille Bidan, a teenage boy who happens upon a mobile suit known as the Gundam Mk-II. Kamille, who detests the Earth Federation and their oppressive ways, finds himself drawn to the AEUG. He decides to join them, hoping to fight against the Federation. However, despite his good intentions, Kamille's impulsive behavior often leads to trouble.

As the episode progresses, we meet other key characters, including Reccoa Londe, a female pilot who is assigned to the same mobile suit as Kamille, and Quattro Bajeena, a mysterious man who leads the AEUG. We also see the return of some familiar faces from the original Mobile Suit Gundam series, including Bright Noa and Kikka Kitamoto.

The episode is action-packed and filled with intense moments, as the Federation tries to regain control of their base and the AEUG fights back. It is clear that the war between the two factions will play a large role in the series, and there is a palpable tension throughout.

Perhaps one of the most significant moments of the episode comes towards the end when we see the reveal of the "Black Gundam." This is a new mobile suit developed by the Federation, and it is unlike anything we've seen before. Its power and abilities put it on par with the Gundam Mk-II, which until now had been considered one of the most advanced mobile suits in existence.

Overall, "Black Gundam" is an excellent start to the Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam series. It sets up the core conflict, introduces key characters, and provides plenty of action and suspense. It is a must-watch for fans of the Gundam franchise and those who enjoy mecha anime in general.
