Bonnie’s ex-husband and Christy’s father, Alvin, unexpectedly visits the family for the weekend. Bonnie is thrilled to see Alvin, although Christy is less enthusiastic. Alvin is a former music producer who now lives in a trailer with his new wife, Tammy. While Tammy visits a friend in San Diego, Alvin stays with Bonnie and Christy. Bonnie has high hopes of rekindling their romance, but Alvin makes it clear that he is happily married and only wants to catch up with his daughters.
Meanwhile, Violet is dealing with her own relationship problems. Her fiancé, Gregory, has been distant lately, and she worries that he is cheating on her. She confides in Christy, who begins to suspect that Gregory may be having an affair with his assistant. When Christy confronts Gregory about his behavior, she discovers that he has been working long hours to secure a high-paying job in San Francisco. Feeling guilty for doubting him, Violet apologizes to Gregory and they reconcile.
Back at the house, Alvin’s visit is causing some tension between Bonnie and Adam. Bonnie is not being honest with Adam about her feelings for Alvin, which leads to a heated argument. After some reflection, Bonnie realizes that she is being unfair to Adam and decides to end her obsession with Alvin once and for all. She tells Alvin that she is happy for him and Tammy and wishes them all the best.
Later, the family gathers for dinner at a fancy restaurant. Alvin surprises everyone by arriving in a bright red Ferrari, which he borrowed from a friend. Christy is embarrassed by her father’s flashy behavior, but Bonnie is thrilled to see him living in the moment. Alvin shares some stories from his wilder days, which prompts Bonnie to reveal some long-held secrets of her own. The conversation takes a serious turn when Alvin opens up about his regrets and encourages Bonnie to make peace with her own past.
As the evening comes to a close, the family says their goodbyes to Alvin. Christy and Bonnie have a heart-to-heart conversation about their complicated relationship with their father. Christy realizes that while Alvin was not perfect, he did the best he could with the tools he had. Bonnie confesses that she still loves Alvin, but knows that it’s time to move on. The episode ends with Christy and Bonnie reminiscing about their wild youth and appreciating how far they have come.
