Monkey Life Season 1 Episode 19 Episode 19
In Episode 19 of Monkey Life Season 1, viewers get an inside look at the daily realities of caring for over 90 primates at the Monkey World Ape Rescue Center. As the primates grow and develop, their needs and behaviours change - presenting the staff with many challenges. In this episode, the staff must deal with potential confrontations between the troops, maintain the living spaces and provide vital medical support.
The episode starts with a check-up on one of the oldest residents at Monkey World, Artie. Artie is an aging Capuchin monkey who has begun to experience mobility issues - he is unable to grasp branches and move in his usual agile way. The staff at Monkey World are very concerned about his quality of life and are determined to do everything they can to help him. After consulting with some of the world's leading primatologists, the staff develop a physical therapy program specifically for Artie's needs. This program includes a wheelchair made specially for Artie, which helps him to move around with ease.
Moving on to other primates, the staff are also concerned about the welfare of a small group of Barbary macaques. This group are known for their boisterous behaviour and the staff must be extra vigilant with them. In this episode, the staff must carefully introduce a new young female into the group to ensure that no aggressive behaviour occurs. Members of the public often bring their own pet monkeys to the center, hoping that the primates will be able to mix with the other primates, but this can be very dangerous as pet monkeys can carry dangerous diseases. The staff have to adhere to strict protocols to ensure their own safety, as well as the safety of the primates they care for.
Another story arc follows the progress of a baby chimpanzee, Blossom, who was born at Monkey World. Blossom is growing rapidly and requires constant care from the staff. Raised by her surrogate mother chimpanzee Amy, Blossom must learn how to climb and communicate with her troop. In addition, the staff are monitoring her development closely to ensure that she will be able to assimilate with other chimpanzees when she's older.
At the center, it is also important to maintain the living spaces that the primates inhabit. In Episode 19, the staff are working to spruce up one of the island living spaces. The staff must clear and plant new vegetation on the island as well as move some of the resident primates to different areas to ensure the safety of all the primates. The living spaces are continually assessed and improved to make sure the primates have a stimulating and comfortable home.
Overall, Episode 19 of Monkey Life Season 1 gives viewers an insight into the intricate workings of a rehabilitation center devoted to primates. The show helps to raise awareness about the care that primates need and educates the public on the role of conservationists in protecting these magnificent animals.
