Fifth Gear is a television series that focuses on the automotive world. The show features several different hosts and drivers who test various vehicles in different conditions. The drivers on the show test both high-end, expensive sports cars as well as typical family vehicles to see how they handle real-world conditions as well as specialized tests. Each episode of the series features a set of cars that are subjected to different tests to see how they perform. One episode involves crash tests while another is dedicated to seeing how SUVs perform in roll-overs. They also have cars do tricks such as drifting. The show also features interviews with famous racecar drivers. Sometimes the tests involve pitting different cars against one another and seeing how they come out. One episode even ranks the best cars of the 1980's. Another episode is devoted solely to figuring out which Ferrari is the best in the world. Some of the episodes are done tongue in cheek with a bit of humor. One episode involves having the mother of one of the drivers drive a Lamborghini. Of course, the machine is a lot for the mom to handle, and she has quite a time with it. The drivers also run a bunch of different crash tests on the vehicle. One episode has them testing vehicles by running them into a lamp post. In another episode, they crash cars that are going at 120 miles per hour. They also test various engines against each in terms of figuring out what is the best, diesel or gasoline powered cars. The drivers are all professional but the show is not without hazards. In one episode, driver Tom Ford is trying to drift a van, and he ends up crashing, breaking his foot and several toes. Another driver suffered severe burns in a different episode. The shows gives out awards every year as well. The categories include Best Small Car, Best Family Car, Best Fast Car, and Car of the Year.
