  • 22 min

The second episode of season 2 of Monkey Life takes us back to the iconic Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre in Dorset, England. This episode follows the daily lives and struggles of the primates at the center as they face new challenges and reacclimate to their natural habitats.

In this episode, we meet a group of energetic and mischievous capuchin monkeys who recently arrived at Monkey World from an unknown source. The capuchins are initially quarantined to ensure their health is good and to prevent any potential spread of diseases to the existing inhabitants of the center. In the quarantine section, we see Dr. Alison Cronin and her team performing thorough medical checks and providing the new arrivals with nutritious meals to help build their strength.

Meanwhile, across the center, the keepers are working to improve the habitats of some of the other residents. The Langur monkeys, for example, have been given a brand new enclosure that is far more spacious and better suited to their needs. The keepers observe the animals in their new environment, and it is evident that the Langurs are both happier and healthier in their new home.

As always, Monkey World is also helping to protect and conserve primates beyond the borders of the center. Through partnerships with organizations around the world, including the Thailand Wildlife Friends Foundation and the Vietnam Primate Conservation Programme, Monkey World assists in rescuing primates from dangerous and illegal poaching operations.

One particularly moving segment in this episode shows the rescue of a baby orangutan named Tamu from an animal trafficker who was attempting to smuggle him out of Indonesia. Tamu is brought to Monkey World, where he receives vital medical care and begins to bond with his new primate family.

Throughout the episode, we also see heartwarming moments of bonding and playtime between the primates as they adjust to their new surroundings and form meaningful connections with their handlers and each other. The keepers also work tirelessly to provide the animals with engaging enrichment activities that promote physical and mental stimulation.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Monkey Life is seeing the individual personalities and quirks of each primate in their daily interactions. From the confident and charismatic chimpanzees to the shy and retiring gibbons, each species displays its unique traits and behaviors that make them both fascinating and endearing.

Overall, Episode 2 of Monkey Life season 2 offers an intimate look at the critical work being done by the team at Monkey World to protect and care for endangered primates. It also showcases the incredible resilience and intelligence of these animals and their capacity for forming deep and meaningful social connections.
