Moone Boy is a comedy television series created by Chris O'Dowd and Nick Vincent Murphy. The show is set in the late 80s and early 90s in Boyle, a small town in the west of Ireland. The series chronicles the adventures of Martin Moone (David Rawle), a young boy who has an imaginary friend named Sean Murphy (Chris O'Dowd). In season 1, episode 4, titled "Dark Side of the Moone," Martin and Sean delve into the paranormal as they try to uncover the truth about a rumored haunted house in their town.

The episode begins with Martin and his friend Padraic (Ian O'Reilly) exploring a supposedly haunted house in their town. The two boys are convinced that the house is inhabited by ghosts and are determined to find evidence to support their theory. However, their investigation is cut short when they're caught by the house's owner, a stern woman named Mrs. Deveraux (Deirdre O'Kane).

Meanwhile, Martin's mother, Debra (Deirdre O'Kane), is dealing with her own problems. She's been tasked with organizing a charity auction to raise money for the local school, but things aren't going as planned. Her husband Liam (Peter McDonald) is more interested in watching football than helping, and the school's principal is less than helpful.

As Martin and Padraic continue their investigation, they discover that Mrs. Deveraux's son, who used to live in the haunted house, died under mysterious circumstances. Martin becomes convinced that the boy's ghost is haunting the house and is determined to help him find peace.

Meanwhile, Debra's auction is a disaster. Liam accidentally bids on a painting he can't afford, and the school's principal makes a scene when he realizes that the auction is being held in a pub. Just when things couldn't get any worse, one of the auction items goes missing.

Back at the haunted house, Martin and Padraic are scared out of their wits when they hear strange noises coming from upstairs. Martin is convinced that the ghost is trying to communicate with him and enlists Sean's help in deciphering the messages. Together, they unravel the mystery of what really happened to Mrs. Deveraux's son all those years ago.

With their investigation complete, Martin and Sean are able to put the ghost to rest and bring closure to Mrs. Deveraux. Meanwhile, Debra's auction is saved when Liam's accidental bid on the painting turns out to be the highest bid of the night. The school raises enough money to buy new textbooks, and Liam is hailed as a hero.

"Dark Side of the Moone" is a hilarious and heartwarming episode of Moone Boy that showcases the show's ability to balance humor with genuine emotion. Martin's determination to help the ghost of Mrs. Deveraux's son is both funny and touching, and the episode's resolution is satisfying without being too saccharine. Overall, this episode is a great example of Moone Boy at its best.
