Ep 2. Chapter Two

In the second episode of the first season of Murder One, titled "Chapter Two," the focus shifts to the prime suspect of the case, Richard Cross. Cross is a rich and successful businessman who was having an affair with the murder victim, a young actress named Jessica Costello.

The episode begins with defense attorney Ted Hoffman and his team attempting to build a case for Cross's innocence. They interview one of Cross's employees, who claims that he saw Cross at a business meeting during the time of the murder. However, their investigation is interrupted when the police discover a hidden tape in Jessica's apartment that features Cross discussing the murder plot with an unknown accomplice.

As a result, Cross is arrested and charged with the murder of Jessica Costello. Ted is now forced to shift his focus from preparing a defense to figuring out who Cross's accomplice is and how to use that information to exonerate his client.

Meanwhile, Jessica's family is struggling to cope with her death. Her father is distraught and believes that Cross is guilty, while her sister Charlotte is more level-headed and willing to consider other possibilities. Charlotte also reveals that Jessica had mentioned a stalker who had been bothering her before her murder, adding another layer of complexity to the case.

As Ted and his team dig deeper into the case, they discover that Cross's wife, Lisa, has a history of mental illness and was recently released from a psychiatric hospital. Lisa is convinced that Richard is guilty of the murder and is willing to testify against him in court. However, Ted is hesitant to involve her in the trial, as her fragile mental state could undermine their case.

As the episode comes to a close, Ted receives a surprise visit from the mysterious woman who is heard on the tape discussing the murder plot with Cross. She claims to be his former lover and provides him with information that could prove to be crucial in identifying the real killer.

"Chapter Two" is a suspenseful episode that raises more questions than it answers.
