In My Cat From Hell season 8 episode 1, titled "Crazy Cat Opens Doors," host and cat behaviorist Jackson Galaxy works with a couple named Emily and Spencer, who have a mischievous cat named Ruby. Ruby is a relentless door-opener, and despite their best efforts, Emily and Spencer cannot seem to keep her from letting herself out of rooms and even the house. This behavior not only puts Ruby in danger of getting lost or hurt outside, but it also causes stress and frustration for her owners.

At the beginning of the episode, we see Emily and Spencer recounting their struggles with Ruby's door-opening habit. They've tried all sorts of techniques - putting up baby gates, blocking doorways with furniture, installing doorknob covers - but nothing seems to deter Ruby from her mission. They even resorted to locking her in a spare bedroom, which resulted in Ruby clawing at the carpet and causing damage to the room.

Jackson arrives on the scene to assess the situation and meet Ruby. Immediately, he notices something interesting about her behavior: she's extremely curious and intelligent. Jackson suspects that Ruby's door-opening is more than just a random habit - it's part of her way of exploring the world. He decides to put this hypothesis to the test by setting up a series of door puzzles for Ruby to solve, using food as a reward.

As expected, Ruby quickly figures out how to open each of the doors, demonstrating her intelligence and persistence. However, this also confirms Jackson's suspicion that Ruby needs a lot of mental stimulation and enrichment in her environment. He advises Emily and Spencer to provide more interactive toys and activities for Ruby, as well as to give her more outdoor access (safely, of course). By giving Ruby more opportunities to explore and learn, they can hopefully channel her curiosity in a positive direction.

Another issue that Jackson notes is Ruby's lack of boundaries. She seems to have no concept of personal space, and will jump on counters, knock things over, and even bite her owners if they try to move her. Jackson thinks that this behavior stems from Ruby feeling insecure and anxious in her environment - she doesn't have clear rules and boundaries to follow, so she's trying to assert her dominance in other ways.

To address this, Jackson works with Emily and Spencer to establish clear rules and consequences for Ruby. They practice setting boundaries, both verbal and physical, and rewarding Ruby when she obeys. Jackson also recommends giving Ruby a designated space of her own, such as a cat tree or special bed, where she can feel secure and comfortable.

Throughout the episode, we see the progress that Emily and Spencer make with Ruby. With Jackson's guidance, they're able to establish a better routine and set of rules for Ruby, which in turn helps her feel more secure and relaxed. They work on providing more mental and physical stimulation for Ruby, including building her a custom outdoor enclosure where she can play safely.

By the end of the episode, Ruby's door-opening habit is under control - she's not trying to escape as much, and when she does, Emily and Spencer feel confident that she'll come back on her own. They're also able to have a better relationship with Ruby, with fewer incidents of her biting or jumping on them. Overall, the episode showcases Jackson's unique approach to cat behavior, which centers on understanding the cat's needs and motivations, and working with the owner to create a positive environment for everyone involved.
