Ep 1. Very Bad Things

Earl Hickey's life is all about Karma, and he wants to make things right for all the bad things he's done in his past. In the first episode of the second season, titled "Very Bad Things," Earl sets out to atone for one of his biggest sins yet.

The episode starts with Earl and his buddy Randy returning to Camden County after a long road trip. They come back to find Joy's trailer on fire. Earl feels guilty because he is the one who gave Joy the idea to light a forge in the trailer to make meth. In the process, the trailer caught fire and burned down, costing Joy her home. Earl decides that he needs to make things right and put everything back to where it was before.

Earl's first step is to try and get Joy a new trailer. When he and Randy go to meet the trailer salesman, they discover that Earl already has a bad reputation with the dealer as he had once tried to steal a trailer. Earl uses his powers of persuasion to convince the salesman to let him and Randy take a trailer on credit, as he promises to do some good karma and keep him out of debt.

Next, Earl tries to convince Joy to accept the new trailer, but she is not interested. Joy wants the insurance money from the fire and doesn't want to be indebted to Earl. Earl leaves, disheartened, and starts drinking to forget his troubles. But when he wakes up in the morning, he realizes that he needs to keep trying.

Earl decides to do some more good deeds, and he starts by fixing up Joy's burnt-out treehouse for her son. He also sets up an aquarium for Catalina, who doesn't speak English and misses the ocean. Earl knows that he needs to make Joy see that he is really trying to make amends.

Finally, after a day of doing good deeds, Earl goes back to Joy's trailer to find her and offer his apologies. But when he gets there, he finds that Joy has decided to take the new trailer after all. Earl is happy that he has finally done something right.

In the end, Earl reflects back on his day of good deeds and realizes that he's doing the right thing even if he's not getting instant gratification. He's committed to fixing all the bad things he's done in the past, and he'll keep doing it no matter what.
