In My Wife and Kids season 3 episode 24, titled The Big Bang Theory, Michael's plans for a romantic evening with Jay are unexpectedly put on hold when the family's house is vandalized and all of their belongings are stolen. With the police unable to solve the case, Michael takes matters into his own hands and puts up a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the capture of the perpetrators.
As Michael makes flyers and goes door to door in search of clues, the kids decide to enter a science fair contest at school. Junior, who has always struggled in school, surprises everyone when he develops a keen interest in physics and becomes determined to win the competition. With the help of his siblings, Junior puts together an experiment that he hopes will impress the judges and secure him the top prize.
Meanwhile, Claire's eccentric boyfriend Tony pays a visit to the family, much to Michael's chagrin. Tony is an aspiring musician who plays the didgeridoo and dresses like a hippie, much to the amusement of the rest of the family. Despite Claire's protests, Michael can't help but feel skeptical of Tony's intentions with his daughter.
As the day of the science fair approaches, tensions run high in the Kyle household. Michael becomes increasingly obsessed with solving the mystery of the vandalized house, while Junior struggles to prepare his experiment for the competition. With the help of his family, Junior eventually manages to pull off a successful demonstration at the science fair. However, the family is soon dealt another blow when they receive news that Michael's reward has been claimed, but not by the people responsible for the theft.
In the end, the Kyles realize that what's most important is their bond as a family. Despite the setbacks they've faced, they come together to support one another and remind each other of the strength they possess as a unit. The episode ends on a heartwarming note as Michael and Jay share a quiet moment together, grateful for their family and all that they have.
