As the second episode of the first season of NCIS: New Orleans begins, Special Agent Dwayne Praide and his team are investigating a potential threat to the Crescent City Connection Bridge, which connects New Orleans to the neighboring city of Gretna. Apparently, a disgruntled former employee of the bridge's maintenance crew has planted a bomb on the bridge, threatening to blow it up during rush hour unless his demands are met.
Meanwhile, another case falls into the lap of the NCIS team when a Petty Officer aboard the USS Stanton is found dead from a mysterious illness. Agent Meredith Brody heads to the ship to investigate, and discovers that several other sailors are exhibiting similar symptoms. With the help of Dr. Loretta Wade from the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office, Brody determines that the disease may be the result of exposure to a dangerous chemical that was being smuggled on board the ship.
The two cases quickly become intertwined when it becomes clear that the chemical on the USS Stanton was smuggled by the same group who planted the bomb on the Crescent City Connection. As the NCIS team races to find the culprits before they can carry out their deadly plan, they must also struggle to contain the spread of the disease and help the infected sailors before it's too late.
