Ep 1. Re-Launch

As the second season of this hit sitcom gets underway, we find our quirky protagonist Jess (Zooey Deschanel) reeling from the realization that her ex-boyfriend, Spencer (Ian Wolterstorff), has moved on and started a new relationship. Determined not to wallow in self-pity, Jess decides to use this setback as an opportunity to "re-launch" herself, starting with a bold new look that includes a daring new hairstyle and some trendy new clothes.

While her roommates Nick (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield), and Winston (Lamorne Morris) are initially startled by Jess' new look, they quickly adapt, and the group settles back into their oddball dynamic. But things get complicated when Jess goes out on a date with a guy named Sam (David Walton), whom she meets while shopping for furniture at a garage sale. Despite their obvious chemistry, Jess is hesitant to get involved with Sam because of her recent break-up. But when Nick starts to show signs of jealousy over her date with Sam, Jess begins to rethink her feelings.

Meanwhile, Schmidt is wracked with guilt over a one-night stand he had with Cece (Hannah Simone), the beautiful model and frequent object of his affection. When Cece confronts Schmidt about the encounter, he is forced to confront the fact that he still has unresolved feelings for her. Winston, for his part, is struggling to find his place in the group, having recently lost his job and his girlfriend. But he finds an unlikely ally in his boss, who encourages him to pursue some creative opportunities.

As the episode draws to a close, Jess must make a difficult decision about her future with Sam, while Schmidt and Cece face their feelings head-on. And despite all the drama, the gang ultimately comes together to support each other in their various endeavors, proving once again that they're more than just roommates – they're family.
