Ep 3. Double Date

Jess is back on the dating market and she's ready to move on from her breakup with Nick. In the episode "Double Date," Jess and Nick attempt to go on a date with other people, but things quickly get complicated.

Winston suggests that he and Schmidt set up a double date with his girlfriend, Daisy, and her friend, Holly. Schmidt is immediately skeptical, but Winston assures him that Holly is "a cool girl." Jess is excited to have a night out and agrees to go along with the plan.

The double date starts off awkwardly, with everyone feeling self-conscious about their appearances and their attempts at conversation. Jess's date is a weird guy named Bill who works in sanitation and constantly interrupts her. Nick's date is a beautiful lawyer named Amanda who seems nice, but Nick is clearly still hung up on Jess.

As the night progresses, the group heads to a karaoke bar where things really start to go off the rails. Jess is embarrassed by Bill's terrible singing and tries to make a run for it, but he catches her and insists on singing a duet with her. Meanwhile, Schmidt is having a meltdown because Holly has revealed that she used to date one of his friends.

Nick and Amanda are having a great time bonding over their mutual love of the Chicago Bears, but Nick can't help but stare at Jess as she's up on stage. When Bill makes a cringeworthy move and tries to kiss Jess, Nick jumps up and punches him in the face. Chaos ensues and the double date ends in a trip to the emergency room.

While waiting for Nick to get his hand checked out, Jess and Amanda bond over their shared experiences of dating Nick. Amanda warns Jess that Nick is still in love with her and that she shouldn't be leading him on. Jess protests, but starts to wonder if there's some truth to what Amanda is saying.

Back at the loft, Nick and Jess have a heart-to-heart about their feelings for each other. Nick confesses that he kept Jess's jacket after they broke up because it smells like her and he can't let go. Jess admits that she's been thinking about Nick a lot, but that she needs to move on.

As the episode ends, Jess goes on a second date with Bill, but it's clear that he's not the right guy for her. Meanwhile, Nick and Amanda continue to see each other, but it's clear that Nick is still hung up on Jess.

"Double Date" is a hilarious and poignant episode that explores the complexities of relationships and the difficulty of moving on after a breakup. With its zany humor and heartfelt moments, it's a standout episode in a season full of great moments.
