Occupied is a futuristic political drama set in Europe in the near future. The premise is that the nation of Norway is occupied by Russia, by direction of the European Union. This was brought about when an environmental extremist prime minister in Norway cut off the production of oil and gas, which the rest of Europe depends on. The story uses science fiction to address environmental themes. The world is also seeing an energy crisis and the effects of global warming, leaving Norway caught in the middle from the possible sea rise and a great deal of pressure on the government. The story follows various citizens of Norway, as well as Greece and Russia, as they make their way to try to deal with the international strife and figure out a way to diplomatically end the occupation. A resistance movement arises to challenge the occupation, teetering the world on the brink of another world war.
