Ep 9. Black Mold

Outmatched season 1 episode 9 named "Black Mold" centers around the struggles of a blue-collar family in Atlantic City. The Bennett family consists of Mike and Cay, who have four children, one of whom is a genius. The middle daughter Samantha (Finesse Ortiz) is focused on her schoolwork, much to the frustration of her parents, who worry that she may be neglecting other aspects of her life.

Later on in the episode, the Bennett family finds out that Freddy has been overcharging them for the mold removal, and they confront him about it. Freddy admits he's struggling financially and promises to do more work for them at a discount to make things right. The family, despite their frustrations, agrees to give him another chance and decides to help him out by putting together a fundraiser to help him out.

As the episode draws to a close, we see the Bennett family work together to fix their problems and deal with everyday challenges. The show does not shy away from portraying the complexities of raising children, especially if one of them is a prodigy.
