  • February 5, 2021

Penn & Teller: Fool Us is a hit television show that features master magicians Penn & Teller. Each episode, the duo invites magicians from around the world to perform their best tricks in front of a live studio audience. The goal? To try and "fool" Penn & Teller. If the magicians can successfully trick the veteran performers, they win the ultimate prize: a chance to open for Penn & Teller in their world-famous Las Vegas act.

For the fifth episode of the eighth season, titled "Penn & Teller Go For A Spin," the stakes are high as more magicians take the stage to try and outsmart the ultimate duo. We start off with Penn & Teller in their iconic red chairs, ready to be entertained and hopefully, fooled.

The first to take the stage is Kenny Mikey. He’s excited to be here, and he looks ready to put on an exciting show. Kenny’s trick revolves around a giant wheel, and he invites audience members to come up and spin it. Whatever number the wheel lands on, that’s the number of objects Kenny will juggle. He manages to keep every object in the air while countering the spinning of the wheel, and it’s an impressive sight. But will he be able to pull one over on Penn & Teller?

Next up is Naomi Somekh. She's an Israeli magician with a robe and a striking black hat. She tells a story about her love for magic and creates wondrous illusions as background music elevates the performance. The climax to her act is particularly entrancing when she makes an object seemingly disappear in thin air. After her performance, Penn notes that “it was a magical show,” but will Naomi’s trickery be powerful enough to fool the illusionists?

The term ‘fooling’ the duo is subjective because of what we understand about Penn and Teller. In this episode, the performances are joyful, fantastic, and off-the-wall tricks that are inclined to amuse and amaze you.

Up next is Kiki Lovechild. This performer is vibrant, and his act is a blend of comedy and magic. In his act, he invites Penn & Teller up to the stage to participate. With a remarkable comic touch, Kiki does smooth work on his props while involving the audience. At the end of his act, he pulls off some complicated maneuvering with his cards and absolutely astonished both Penn & Teller. Can the final two magicians beat that?

Russia’s Vlad Shabashov and his assistant Valeriya Tzelskaya, follow with an act that makes us leap in excitement. With a unique twist to their typical illusion, Vlad suspends Valeriya mid-air and fascinatingly, changes costumes on her! Penn & Teller watch closely, but will they be fooled as the performance takes another turn?

Last but not least, FISM champion Shin Lim hits the stage. Shin is no stranger to Fool Us, and he's known for his mind-bending card tricks. As usual, his performance is both visually stunning and intricately choreographed, with cards flying through the air and landing in unexpected places. Shin always manages to make the impossible look effortless, but will his trick be enough to fool the tough duo?

Each act in the episode tries to push the illusionist's boundaries even further, and it's a testament to the magic community’s creativity and diversity. From transforming costumes to juggling axe heads, every performer has something unique to offer.

As always, the show’s pacing runs smoothly thanks to the consistent presence of the charming Penn & Teller and the enthusiastic audience cheering on the magicians. It’s clear that Penn & Teller truly enjoy being part of this magic community and are happy to reward creativity and skill. In "Penn & Teller Go For A Spin," we see some incredible illusions that make us gasp, applaud, and revel in the magic of the art.
