In this episode of Quincy, M.E., the forensic pathologist Quincy (Jack Klugman) investigates the mysterious deaths of two ice skaters. The episode begins with a young couple, Pam (played by Lar Park-Lincoln) and Jeff (Mark Withers), practicing their ice-skating routine for an upcoming competition. However, their practice session is cut short when Jeff collapses on the ice and dies. Quincy arrives on the scene to investigate the cause of Jeff's death and initially suspects that cocaine may be involved.

Later, Quincy is called to investigate another death at the ice rink. This time, a young woman named Heather (played by Barbara Howard) dies while performing her ice-skating routine. Quincy begins to suspect that there may be a connection between the two deaths, especially when he discovers that a large quantity of a drug called "hot ice" was found in Heather's system.

Quincy's investigation takes him to a local drug dealer named "Tony the Candyman" (played by Tony Azito) who is known to have connections to the drug trade in the area. Quincy suspects that Tony may be involved in the deaths of the two ice skaters and makes it his mission to bring him to justice.

Meanwhile, Quincy's friend and colleague, Sam (Robert Ito), discovers that he has a serious heart condition and may need surgery. This subplot adds an emotional element to the episode as Quincy tries to support Sam while also dealing with the investigation.

As Quincy continues to investigate the deaths of the two ice skaters, he uncovers a web of deceit and corruption among the skating community. It becomes clear that someone is using "hot ice" to enhance the performance of the skaters, but the drug is also extremely dangerous and can be fatal.
