Watch Rambo: The Animated Series
- 1 Season
Rambo: The Animated Series, also known as Rambo: The Force of Freedom, is a family-targeted cartoon using the character of John Rambo from the First Blood movies. The character was created for the novel First Blood by David Morrell, but the inspiration behind the animation was the 1982 movie First Blood starring Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo. Unlike the novel and movie that depict Rambo as a loner forced into action to defend himself from the local authorities in towns he visits, the Rambo of the animation is the leader of a secret group of military specialists. Beginning as a five-part series to promote a Rambo toy line, the series was expanded to complete a 65-episode season in 1986. John Rambo begins Rambo: The Animated Series as the operational leader of The Force of Freedom under the command of CoLonel Trautman. A terrorist group known as S.A.V.A.G.E., an acronym for Specialist Administrators of Vengeance, Anarchy and Global Extortion, is led by the terrorist General Warhawk. Warhawk and his second in command, Sergeant Havoc, have set their sights on conquering the African country of Tierra Libre; with the other members of S.A.V.A.G.E., General Warhawk battles with Rambo and the other members of The Force of Freedom in hand-to-hand combat and with guns for control of the country. As the season progresses, the show depicts mostly stand-alone episodes with S.A.V.A.G.E. targeting different countries and regions of the world to conquer or disrupt. For example, to play on the fears of the Scottish people, General Warhawk builds and operates a model Loch Ness Monster to cause anarchy amongst the people of the country. Despite depicting violent battles, there is no blood or death in Rambo: The Animated Series; no reference is made to Rambo's background as a Vietnam veteran.
