Dan C. Newman (born July 8, 1973) is an American actor, best known for his role as Jared in the HBO series Deadwood (2004-2006), and as Billy True in the AMC series Hell on Wheels (2011-2016). He has also appeared in several films, including Fight Club (1999), The Departed (2006), and Lincoln Lawyer (2011). Newman was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, and began his acting career in the early 1990s. He first gained recognition for his role in the independent film The Stöned Age (1994), and went on to star in several television shows before landing his breakout role in Deadwood. After the series ended, Newman continued to work in television and film, most notably in the critically acclaimed HBO series True Detective (2014-present), where he played Detective Ray Velcoro. Newman has received critical acclaim for his performances and has been nominated for numerous awards.
