In Rise Season 1 Episode 2, titled "Most of All to Dream," the high school drama program faces its first major obstacle. While Lou Mazzuchelli (played by Josh Radnor) tries to introduce new elements to the program to make it more relevant and engaging, he is met with resistance from the students who are more comfortable with traditional approaches. The episode also delves into the personal lives of many of the students, shedding light on their struggles and aspirations.

The episode begins with Robbie Thorne (played by Damon J. Gillespie) preparing to audition for a prestigious dance program. His father, who is not supportive of his son's aspirations, wants him to quit the drama program and focus solely on sports. Robbie's struggles are reflected in the other students' challenges as well. Maashous Evers (played by Rarmian Newton) is homeless and struggles to find stability in his life. Michael Hallowell (played by Ellie Desautels) is transgender and faces discrimination both in school and at home.

In an effort to make the drama program more contemporary, Lou introduces a new song to the students. While some embrace the change, others are unhappy with the unconventional approach. Tracey Wolfe (played by Rosie Perez), the assistant director of the program, also has reservations about the new direction and clashes with Lou over the matter.

The episode also explores the dynamics between the students. Simon Saunders (played by Ted Sutherland) and Jeremy (played by Sean Grandillo) have a complicated relationship that is made more difficult by Simon's reluctance to come out. Gwen Strickland (played by Amy Forsyth) struggles to balance her loyalty to her best friend and her growing feelings for an outsider, Robbie.

As the drama program faces its first major obstacle, Lou must navigate the challenges of trying to inspire and motivate a group of teenagers with different backgrounds, experiences, and aspirations. How will the students respond to Lou's new approach to the program? Will Robbie be able to pursue his dreams despite his father's objections? How will Michael cope with the discrimination he faces? These questions and more are explored in "Most of All to Dream."
