Shaun Cassidy, a former teen actor and singer with a large following, created this story about a young girl whose mother died, leading her to search for her real father. Upon finding him and discovering that he has been a singer entertainer since he was younger, she moves in with him temporarily. The problem is that since he broke up with the family band many years ago, he hasn't really had a stable lifestyle. Her father, played by David Cassidy, decides to take her to his estranged brother's house and ask if they will help raise her by having her stay with them. All sorts of laughs and drama ensue, with Ruby's father and his brother being forced to make up while still disagreeing about the best method of raising her given the situations that come up. In one episode, Ruby's father allows her to date an older man while his brother had forbade it. Although she goes out on the date, she ends up finding out that her new boyfriend is actually gay- causing the family to stop worrying about it.
