The Salvage Dawgs are back and in this episode, they are in Clapp Farm to salvage an old windmill. The team is excited to take on this project as they get to work on a piece of history that has been standing for well over a century. The windmill is situated on the top of a hill, making it a challenging job to dismantle and haul away.
The Clapp Farm windmill is a beautiful piece of machinery and has been a landmark for centuries. The design of the windmill is unique and has a Dutch-style architecture. It was built in the 1860s and has stood the test of time, even going through tornadoes and heavy storms. But now, it has reached the end of its lifespan and needs to be taken down.
The Salvage Dawgs get to work as soon as they arrive, and the first thing they do is assess the windmill. They climb up to the top of the structure and take a closer look at the gears and bearings. The team is amazed to see how well-built the windmill is and how it still works despite being neglected for so many years.
Once they have identified the components they need to salvage, the team gets to work disassembling the windmill. They start by taking off the blades, which are attached to the frame with bolts. Then they remove the gears and bearings from the top of the windmill. The team has to be careful not to damage any of the parts as they will be reused later on in the restoration process.
The next step is to dismantle the frame of the windmill. The frame is made of heavy timber and is held together with large bolts. The team carefully removes each bolt, making sure not to damage any of the beams. Once the beams are removed, they are stacked and loaded onto the truck.
The final step in the dismantling process is to remove the tower that holds the windmill. The tower is made of steel and is bolted to a concrete base. The team uses a crane to lift the tower off the base and onto the truck. It's a delicate process, but the team manages to do it with precision.
With all the components of the windmill salvaged, the team now needs to transport them back to the shop. They load up the truck and head back, excited to begin the restoration process.
Back at the shop, the restoration process begins. The team disassembles and cleans all the parts, removing rust and debris. The gears and bearings are lubricated, and any damaged components are replaced with new ones.
Once everything is cleaned and restored, the team begins to assemble the windmill. They start by building the base and then work their way up, adding the gears and blades. Finally, the tower is attached to the frame, and the windmill is lifted into place.
The Salvage Dawgs are thrilled to see the windmill restored back to its former glory. The team has put in a lot of hard work, and the final result is stunning. The windmill is again a landmark in the community, and the team is proud to have been a part of its restoration.
The Clapp Farm windmill episode of Salvage Dawgs is a testament to the team's dedication to preserving history. The team's passion for salvaging and restoring old pieces of machinery is evident in this episode, and it's clear to see why they are leaders in the industry.
