  • March 30, 2019

Saturday Night Live season 44, episode 17 featured host Sandra Oh, best known for her role in the television series "Grey's Anatomy" and the spy thriller "Killing Eve." Oh was joined by musical guest Tame Impala, the Australian psychedelic music project led by Kevin Parker.

The show opened with a cold open sketch featuring Alec Baldwin as President Donald Trump, discussing the recent release of the Mueller Report and poking fun at some of the report's findings. Oh then took the stage for her opening monologue, discussing her excitement to host the show and the various roles she has played throughout her career. She also brought out her parents and discussed the importance of representation in media.

The first sketch of the night was a parody of "The View," with a panel of women discussing the recent news surrounding Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. Oh played the role of a conservative host, arguing that Assange's arrest was justified despite some of the information he had previously released. The sketch also featured guest appearances from Kate McKinnon as co-host Joy Behar and Leslie Jones as guest co-host Whoopi Goldberg.

Other sketches throughout the night included a game show called "What's Wrong with This Picture?" where contestants had to identify what was off about various stock photos, a commercial parody for a home security system called "My House," and a parody of "Jeopardy!" featuring Sean Connery (played by Darrell Hammond) and Will Ferrell's impression of Alex Trebek.

The musical performances from Tame Impala included their hit song "Patience" and the premiere of a new song, "Borderline," from their upcoming album.

One standout sketch of the night was a parody of the popular documentary series "Queer Eye," featuring the show's hosts giving makeovers to the cast of the horror movie "Us." Oh played the role of a reluctant participant, initially resistant to the idea of changing her appearance and hesitant to let the hosts into her home. The sketch also included impressions of the "Queer Eye" hosts by cast members Melissa VillaseƱor, Kate McKinnon, and Mikey Day.

Overall, the episode showcased Oh's versatility as both an actress and a comedian, as well as the musical prowess of Tame Impala. The sketches were a mix of political humor, absurdity, and cultural commentary, making for an entertaining night of television.
